at the time of travel, the borders between both countries were closed for political reasons - but exactly the difference between both economic systems was an interesting point of study. And, in fact, it was a risky undertaking - but where is will, there must be a way as well.
When we eventually reached the border check a the foot of the mount KILIMANJARO - and after having spent the night in tents of the AMBOSELI NATURAL RESERVE, the border polices was very severe. NO WAY TO CROSS OVER!
But fortunately, there was an economic crisis and many needed items were hard to get, such as soap). By chance, one of the group had read the news before leaving and bought his soap in germany before departure. It did not need much negotiation skills, to trade in one piece of soap for a travel permit for the entire group to pass the boarder!

in preparation to the excursion, a diploma design project for a future children's village was prepared by 6 students of architecture at tu darmstadt in the winter semester 1982-83. The booklet with the results was also taken to kenia to leave it with the director of the local SOS children's village.
